SAN ANGELO - Several new hotels are under construction, oil companies are claiming land that has lain dormant for years as staging yards, and neighborhoods with new homes and fresh asphalt streets are welcoming oil field workers and their families.

“The trends are moving up, and I believe that has a lot to do with the energy industry,” said John Dugan, vice president of marketing and economic development for the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce.

Economic figures, from sales tax to hotel occupancy rates, are on a yearlong rise.

The following are a few of the major hotel developments occurring in response to the oil boom.

•  Independent Hotel: US 2288 and Grand Court, $1.8 million
•  Residence Inn: 2545 Southwest Blvd., $5.52 million
•  Courtyard by Marriott Hotel: 2572 Southwest Blvd., $7 million
•  Candlewood Suites: Southwest Boulevard and Loop 306, $3 million
•  Baymont Hotel: 46-room, three-story facility; 1418 N. Bryant Blvd.; $3.2 million
