Hotel business booms in Amarillo
AMARILLO – Amarillo hotels booked a nearly 9 percent increase in receipts in the first eight months 2013. Lodging entities reported $61.9 million in receipts to the Texas Comptroller from January 2013 through August 2013, compared to $56.4 million reported during the same period in 2012.
Amarillo’s occupancy increased 2.9 percent to 66.1 percent in second quarter 2013, and revenues jumped 16.1 percent, according to Source Strategies Inc.
In the first eight months of 2013, the following hotels led Amarillo in receipts:
• the 164-room Drury Inn & Suites on I-40 at Soncy Rd. with $3.1 million
• Holiday Inn Amarillo West Medical Center with $2.7 million
• Holiday Inn Express & Suites Amarillo West at 8330 W. Amarillo Blvd. with $2.5 million
In terms of construction, a new $6.2 million, 92-room extended-stay Home2 Suites by Hilton has begun construction at 8251 W. Amarillo Blvd.
In 2Q 2013, 13 of 27 Texas areas, including Amarillo, exceeded occupancy compared to 2012, according to Source Strategies Inc.
