Bryan-College Station home sales up, population growing
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – According to the Bryan-College Station Regional Association of Realtors, home sales have jumped from 149 in September 2012 to 186 in 2013. In July 2013, home sales peaked at around 292. The association said sales topped 400 in 2013.
Home sales in Brazos County and surrounding counties are the highest they have been in years, and experts say it will only go up from here.
Ed Berry with the BCS Regional Association of Realtors said there are several reasons for the increase, including more business opportunities in the area, competitive home pricing, and the growing popularity of Texas A&M University.
"That’s helping to attract businesses here, and along with the businesses comes growth," said Berry.
With the growth comes the need for more infrastructure. Roads that were fine in the past will likely become troublesome in the future.
Bob Colwell with the Texas Department of Transportation said they are working on nine different projects designed to help ease traffic congestion.
College Station officials said the population could reach 100,000 residents as soon as December 2013.
