FORT BEND COUNTY - Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital has major projects in the area that will break ground in the coming months with a cost around $131 million.

Methodist’s heart center will relocate closer to the new emergency center. Its new 20,000-sf facility will break ground in summer 2014 and open in fourth quarter 2015.

A new patient tower will be added to the Sugar Land hospital location, increasing the hospital's bed count to 339. The six-story tower will break ground in summer 2014 and is expected to open in 1Q 2016.

Methodist is also building a facility to house its orthopedics and sports medicine physicians. The practice, currently located at Hwy. 6 and Brooks St., will move to a 60,000-sf building on the corner of Hwy. 59 and Sweetwater Blvd. It will break ground in 2Q 2014 and be complete in 1Q 2015.

Meanwhile, Memorial Hermann Health System, the area's largest health care system, recently announced a $93 million expansion in Sugar Land. Memorial’s expansion in Fort Bend County will include a six-story, 120,000-sf patient tower that will increase the hospital’s bed count to 141.
