ODESSA – Black Gold Oilfield Services will open its $3.1 million, 208-bed lodging facility for oilfield workers, located at 2575 E. Pearl St., in November 2013.

The quarters lie inside long rectangular units with rooms ranging from 10-by-10 feet to 12-by-13 feet. Amenities include a food room, a fitness area, a laundry room and lounging area.

In all, the lodge will employ about 20 people, 13 of whom are local hires.

The man camps built so far are unlikely to put significant downward pressure on rent prices, said Guy Andrews, the economic director for the Odessa Chamber of Commerce. They do offer relief from hotels and motels and the people visiting who seek a room.
