New Braunfels’ next City Hall former grocery
NEW BRAUNFELS – An old Albertson’s grocery store, at the corner of Landa St. and Walnut Ave., was approved for purchase by the New Braunfels City Council. The 51,000-sf building was bought for $2.65 million with plans to become the new City Hall.
“We are desperately in need of more space,” Mayor Gale Pospisil said, noting the city rents 11,000 sf of offices due to crowding at its 16,000-sf building that’s been City Hall since 1989.
Cost to renovate the former grocery store may exceed $5 million. In this case, the project would be complete in phases to remain within the city hall project budget.
The grocery store, located on 5.7 acres, closed in 2011 after being bought by H-E-B.
