GALVESTON and BRAZORIA COUNTIES – Texas buyers are taking to the Gulf to purchase their secondary and vacation homes.

Brokerage firm Sand ‘N Sea Properties in Galveston has sold 248 homes year-to-date, a 38 percent increase from the 181 properties sold in the same period 2012. About 85 percent of those are considered vacation or secondary homes.

On Follet’s Island, the new $30 million Seahorse Beach Club and Residences will break ground in November 2013.

The community in in Brazoria County will sit on 100 acres with about 30 acres occupied by a nature preserve, and will include 36 homes, plus amenities. The estimated cost to complete the project, not including land values, will be about $30 million.

First occupancy of the build-to-suit homes is expected for summer 2014 and the beach club completion is slated for end of 2014.
