Houston a top city for engineers
HOUSTON – Engineering is one of the most in-demand jobs in the U.S. and Houston is one of the best places to pursue it, according to NerdScholar, a consumer personal finance website for students and parents.
The company ranked engineering as one of the top ten occupations with the highest job availability in the 100 largest metro areas. The site then ranked the top metropolitan areas with job openings for engineers.
The Petro Metro ranked third on the list as a city needing engineers, with 7.9 percent of all Houston job openings in 2012 being for engineers. The list cited NASA’s Johnson Space Center as the big draw for engineers in the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown area.
The San Jose, Calif. area was the first on the list for demand for engineers, followed by Detroit. No other Texas cities made the top ten list.
