SAN ANTONIO - Christus Santa Rosa Health Care and Cantex Continuing Care Network will begin construction today on a new 66,000-sf skilled nursing facility in San Antonio's South Texas Medical Center.

The new post-acute transitional care and rehabilitation center will provide advanced therapy and medical care to patients. Cost to construct the facility is estimated at $8.5 million, according to state filings.

Sorrento will be built with a combination of private and semi-private suites, totaling 104 units (112 beds). Sorrento should be completed and open by December 2014.

Company officials say their on-site services will represent the next generation of transitional, short-term care.
