Need a room? Houston hotel rates up Y-O-Y
HOUSTON – The average cost for a hotel room in November 2013 is $134, which is 14 percent higher than the November 2012 average of $118, according to Trivago.com’s Hotel Price Index. However, the average November 2013 rate is down 8 percent from October 2013.
The 14 percent spike in room rates in Houston mirrors the excellent health of Houston’s hotel industry, according to PKF Consulting LLC. The demand for Houston-area hotel rooms — which increased 4.5 percent through second quarter 2013 — will increase 2.3 percent in 2014, 4.2 percent in 2015, 5.2 percent in 2016 and 4 percent in 2017.
In Dallas, the November 2013 average is also $134, which is up 13 percent from November 2012. The November 2013 room rate is down 11 percent from October 2013.
Nationwide, rates increased in 16 of the 25 major cities analyzed by Germany-based Trivago. Overall, rooms are cheaper in 2013, averaging $166, compared to $175 in 2012, a 5 percent drop.
