Sam Rayburn speaks volumes about DFW construction
THE COLONY - The Sam Rayburn Tollway has fueled the latest spurt of growth in the Dallas region. The 1.8 million sf of retail and warehouse space for Nebraska Furniture Mart and a new three-tiered Top Golf center are among projects on the way.
“You’re standing in the fastest-growing part of the U.S., so you’re seeing something unique,” said Michael Morris, director of transportation for the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
The Nebraska Furniture site is part of the Grandscape development, which also includes an additional 300 acres on that site. The development is expected to draw 8 million people a year to the front door of The Colony.
Officials project that Nebraska Furniture Mart will generate $600 million in sales tax revenue over 40 years, along with providing 850 full-time jobs and more than 1,000 part-time positions.
The latest Top Golf location on Blair Oaks Rd. is set to open on November 25. It will bring 450 jobs to The Colony.
Previous highways projects have generated similar construction booms, most recently along the new stretches of toll roads: the Dallas North Tollway and the Bush Turnpike.
