AUSTIN - Construction will begin soon on the $6 million Special Olympics Texas state headquarters at 1804 Rutherford Ln. in Northeast Austin. The 20,000-sf building will create a permanent home for staff and volunteers.
The state organization, which dates back to 1969, currently provides 44,500 children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in one of 23 sports.
The headquarters is expected to be finished by early 2015.
