COLLEGE STATION - Cognizant Technology Solutions, a Fortune 500 tech company, will relocate its U.S. corporate headquarters from New Jersey to College Station.

The company has pledged a three-year, $150,000 grant to support science, technology, engineering and math education, or STEM, programs at A&M.

Cognizant, which provides outsourced information technology, consulting and business process services for companies, has employees and facilities in 49 states, with Montana being the exception. It employs 166,400 people with 29,000 in the U.S. and nets more than $8 billion a year in revenue.

Cognizant President Gordon Coburn said Cognizant plans to hire another 10,000 Americans during the next three years and that 750 of those jobs will be in Texas.

The company recently acquired College Station-based IT company SourceNet Solutions, and Coburn said the company's growth in the area will build upon that foundation and grow gradually in the coming months.

Coburn said that a key factor for the relocation was Texas A&M and its deep pool of talent that he said the company will draw from.
