Round Rock: $12M Cornerstone LTAC facility opens
ROUND ROCK – The Cornerstone Hospital of Round Rock, a 60,000-sf, 54-bed long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital has opened at 4681 College Park Dr. in the Avery Centre master-planned development. The estimated cost of construction was $12 million, according to state filings.
A long-term hospital caters to patients needing more prolonged stays — 25 to 40 days versus the typical three to seven days of admittance at a regular hospital. An LTAC is designed for patients too sick for the nursing home but in need of more specialized care than may be found at a traditional hospital.
“We’ve added 20 to 30 sf of additional space in each room,” said Jay Quintana, Cornerstone’s vice president of operations. “If you look at our rooms, you’ll see full-size sleepers where most hospitals don’t have them and built-in desks so a patient’s family member can work.”
“We have plans for an additional 18 beds as soon as the need is demonstrated,” said Quintana. “The building and all its ancillary functions — its cafeteria, lab, pharmacy — are already built for a 72-bed hospital.
Before the new facility opening, the long-term facilities nearest Round Rock were in downtown Austin, where Cornerstone operates another LTAC, and Temple, where Scott & White Healthcare operates its LTAC.
