SAN ANTONIO – Methodist Hospital will kick off the largest-ever expansion of its facility and adjoining children’s hospital next year — a $200 million-plus project that will include construction of two new patient towers in the South Texas Medical Center.

The project, at 7700 Floyd Curl Dr., will add nearly 500,000 sf to Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital facilities, increasing their footprint in the medical center by nearly 40 percent.

Additions to Methodist’s medical center campus will include a new adult patient tower featuring beds for general acute care and critical care; a new, six-story tower for pediatric patients; a nine-story parking garage and new entrances to both hospitals.

The improvements will convert more than 90 percent of the patient rooms at both hospitals to private rooms. The expansion will increase the number of beds in the neonatal intensive care unit from 78 to 94.

The improvements are scheduled to be complete in 2017.
