Groundbreakings abound in Plainview
PLAINVIEW, HALE COUNTY – Bill Wells Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC dealership has broken ground at 501 S. I-27. The estimated cost of construction is $2.2 million, according to state filings.
When completed, the new dealership will replace the current structure at 5th St. and Joliet St., which has served as the local Chevrolet dealership site for more than 50 years.
The $800,000 Plainview Technology Center has also broken ground adjacent to the SPC-Plainview Center at 1920 W. 24th St.
The facility is being partially funding through a $475,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The structure will help expand the college’s capacity to provide training in industrial manufacturing, welding technology, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, construction and other trades.
An additional $276,625 from a Title V Strengthening Hispanic Serving Institutions Program grant from the U.S. Department of Education will be used for training equipment.
