SPRING – Klein ISD is set to start construction on its newest elementary school in mid-March to alleviate overcrowding at Northampton.

“Northampton Elementary is projected to exceed 120 percent of capacity in fall 2015,” said Klein ISD spokesperson Judy Rimato. Concentrated in the northern part of the district, population growth will range from 10,000 to more than 14,500 students by 2022.

Spanning 125,000 sf, the school will be able to accommodate 940 students. While the school’s enrollment cannot be determined until the new boundary lines are drawn, the school will open under its design capacity. Klein ISD’s 31st elementary school is on track to open August 2015.

The district will form a zoning committee in fall 2014 and the zones will be taken to the board for approval in February 2015. The school will be built with 2008 bond funds.
