SAN ANTONIO - The local housing market ended November 2013 with 4.2 months' worth of existing-home inventory. The last time the market was this tight was December 2006, according to the San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR).

Throughout 2013, the greater San Antonio housing market has reported decreases in existing housing inventory. Not since the housing booms of 2005 and 2006 has the market posted similar figures.

Over the first 11 months of 2012, 21,607 homes were purchased in the San Antonio area, which marks a 17 percent increase over the number of sales for the same 11 months in 2012. The latest sales figure also marks the highest year-to-date number since 2007.

As of November 2013, the average price of a home in San Antonio was $214,677 — up from an average of $194,877 in 2012, and up from the average price of $174,988 posted in November 2011.

The median price of a home in San Antonio at month-end November 2013 was $172,100 — up from $162,700 in 2012. In November 2011, the median price of a home in San Antonio stood at $147,600.
