GEORGETOWN - Austin millionaire, businessman and philanthropist Jack Garey has competed his mission: to donate his 528-acre property to Georgetown to be turned into a sprawling park with an amphitheater and events center.

The property, along the South San Gabriel River in Williamson County, includes his 6,000-sf villa, which will be converted into the events center after Garey passes away.

He’s also throwing in a $5 million donation to help.

The city has big plans for the homestead that will become a park after Garey dies. It will include an amphitheater, an equestrian center, a playground and cabins as well as the villa, which will be used as an events center.

Garey is also giving $15 million to Southwestern University and $6 million to $8 million to the Chisholm Trail Community Foundation, which Cammy Garey, his wife, helped start.
