80,000-SF H-E-B heading to Lake Jackson
LAKE JACKSON – After an extensive demolition, H-E-B is set to begin construction on a new grocery store.
H-E-B bought the 38-acre Old Oak Woods addition in October, planning to build an 80,000-sf store. There were 102 lots owned by 41 entities that had to be acquired.
The proposed site will have retail on both sides of the store, a pharmacy drive-thru, fuel center and a car wash. City officials have said the project must be complete by 2016, but H-E-B hopes to be completed at least a year before.
As part of the Economic Development Agreement approved by City Council, Azalea St., Coral Vine St., Ivy Dr., Grapevine Turn, Winding Way and Trumpet Vine St. will be permanently closed. Center Way will stay, but H-E-B will reconstruct it.
Also as part of the agreement, the city will reimburse H-E-B for redevelopment of the Oak Woods Addition for up to $3 million. The city will also split the property tax bill with the grocer at 50 percent and sales tax at 50 percent up to $2 million.
