LIBERTY CITY - Construction on Sabine ISD's new elementary school, near FM 1252 and Rice Rd. in Liberty City, started in early September. Sabine ISD taxpayers in May 2013 approved a $19.8 million bond election to build a new elementary school.
The new 90,000-sf school will accommodate 780 students and will house Sabine students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades. Construction costs are estimated at $16.8 million, according to state filings.
Building the school, which is slated to open in August 2014, might influence more families to look at Sabine ISD, according to Superintendent Stacey Bryce. “This community is not incorporated so you don’t have city taxes and that is attractive to some people who are wanting to get away from the city,” he said.
