Walmart bringing 300 jobs to South Dallas
DALLAS – Walmart has opened one of its newest supercenters in South Dallas. The 185,000-sf store at 200 Short Blvd., near I-35E and Ledbetter, is expected to create 300 jobs. Construction of the building was estimated to be $8.5 million, according to state filings.
The opening is part of Mayor Mike Rawlings’ GrowSouth initiative, the economic development plan launched in 2012 to strengthen and revitalize Southern Dallas.
The GrowSouth initiative includes plans to strengthen schools, create a private investment fund for south Dallas, revitalize downtown and surrounding communities, implement a west Dallas design plan, build out the Lancaster corridor and make Jefferson Blvd. a main street for South Dallas.
