Spindletop interest brings $23M expansion, jobs to Beaumont

BEAUMONT – XL Systems will undergo a $23 million expansion, which will add 45 full-time positions to the current employee count of 102. The company’s Beaumont operation is located near Spindletop oilfield at 5780 Hagner Rd.

The XL Systems Beaumont facility occupies 40 acres, but only uses about half of its available space. The company has office buildings, fabrication and maintenance shops and two machining centers on the property.

Oil and gas producers have shown renewed interest in the Spindletop field and will drill exploratory wells to test for remaining deposits. Wells at Spindletop have yielded a combined 150 million barrels over the course of the 20th century in three major strikes.

Jefferson County Commissioners Court has approved an abatement for the company "in line" with abatements for similarly sized companies. The numbers of local jobs helped it qualify, said Jessica Hill, chamber and economic development foundation vice president.

Houston-based XL Systems is an oil well services company part of National Oilwell Varco.
