AMARILLO – United Supermarkets will hire 250 employees to staff its new store on South Soncy Rd., which is expected to open in March 2014. The $5.8 million, 55,000-sf store is being constructed on a 19-acre site south of Southwest 34th Ave. along with a freestanding United Express convenience store.

Positions available will include department clerks, bakers, cooks, stockers, meat cutters, checkers and sackers, according to United Regional Talent Manager Kami Golightly.

United operates United Supermarket, Market St. and Amigos groceries and United Express shops.

The Soncy Rd. store will be the company’s eighth location in Amarillo and the first United Supermarket location the company has built since it opened Canyon’s store in 2003.

The Lubbock-based grocery company became an independent division of Albertsons in 2014. Albertsons paid $385 million for the United purchase, according to a Federal Trade Commission document.
