PORT ARTHUR - Hobby Lobby will occupy the 57,300-sf former Sutherlands location at 2770 FM 365. The store does not have a scheduled opening date, but renovations are underway.

The new store will employ between 30 and 35 with pay rates from $14 per hour for full-time positions and $9.50 per hour for part-time, according to Randy Betts, senior vice president of store operations.

Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby has 588 stores across the country and offers more than 67,000 crafting and home decor products.

The Port Arthur City Council granted a $1.2 million sales tax incentive agreement to Houston-based BK PA Ltd. to develop the 88,000-sf former Sutherland’s building at the intersection of FM 365 and US 69. The building has been vacant for the past five years since Sutherland’s Lumber Company closed.
