HOUSTON – In 2013, $11.708 billion in construction contracts were awarded in the Houston metro area, a 4.1 percent increase from the $11.243 billion awarded in 2012.

Residential contracts totaled $8.205 billion in 2013, up 14.4 percent from $7.171 billion during the comparable period in 2012. Residential includes one- and two-family homes and apartments.

Nonresidential contracts totaled $3.502 billion, down 14.0 percent from $4.072 billion in 2012. Nonresidential includes commercial, manufacturing, educational, religious, administrative, recreational, hotel, dormitory and other buildings.
