FORT HOOD - Project work continues on base on a variety of complexes. The 265,000-sf Fort Hood Mall, located on Clear Creek Rd., is about 35 percent complete and is on target to open in 2015.

The new $47 million exchange will include a pharmacy, optical center, dentist, more stores and more dining options.

The 947,000-sf Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center is expected to open in 2015 . Officials will move into the $534 million facility later this year and will conduct training.

The project is the largest Department of Defense (DOD) contract funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the largest design-build medical facility project in the DOD to date.

A 93-room Candlewood Suites is expected to open in July on 761st Tank Battalion Ave. near the Phantom Warrior Center. The extended-stay hotel will feature spacious studios and one-bedroom suites, fully equipped kitchens, and large work areas in each guest room.

The first phase of a $22 million unmanned aerial system hangar will open at West Fort Hood this summer, with the rest following by June 2015. Located near Robert Gray Army Airfield, it will be utilized by Fox and Echo Companies — drone units operating within the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Cavalry Air Brigade.
