LINDEN, CASS COUNTY - Good Shepherd Health System has announced the closing of a hospital and two clinics in Northeast Texas.

The Good Shepherd Medical Center, a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital at 404 N. Kaufman St. in Linden, will close. In addition, the Good Shepherd Medical Associated Family Health Centers at 402 N. Kaufman St. in Linden and at 201 E. 2nd in Hughes Springs will close.

The closures will result in the loss of about 100 jobs. Since the 2005 acquisition of the Linden hospital, Good Shepherd has incurred losses totaling more than $12 million.

According to the release, the group cited Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement cuts to hospitals, a pending loss of the Critical Access Hospital status, a cut in Medicare reimbursements from the federal sequester and low patient usage as reasons for shutting the branches.

All three locations will officially close April 30, 2014.
