ALVARADO, JOHNSON COUNTY - Construction on the new $36.5 million junior high will begin at the end of February. The 150,000-sf Alvarado Junior High is set to open in August 2015.

The campus will be two stories, have a new security system and an elevator. The new campus will be built next to the current junior high school, which will be demolished after construction is completed.

Plans for a $1.7 million renovation of the upstairs wing of Alvarado High School have also been approved. Work will begin at the beginning of summer 2014, with scheduled completion by fall 2014.

“This is an exciting time for our community and more importantly our students,” said Superintendent Chester Juroska. “Schools are here to enhance learning for students and that is exactly what these projects will do when completed.”
