Game on: Raymondville approves sports complex
RAYMONDVILLE, WILLACY COUNTY – A $1.2 million sports complex will be constructed around two playing fields at North First St. and Durango Ave.
The complex will include a 7,300-sf skate park with ramps modeled after Los Fresnos’ skateboard park, said City Manager Eleazar Garcia. It also will feature a 6,000-sf pavilion, four exercise stations and a 1,740-foot-long walking and jogging trail around the park’s perimeter.
As part of the project, Raymondville City Commissioners have reached an agreement with Willacy County, which has earmarked $250,000 to install ten 60-foot-tall light poles along the site.
Using sales tax funds from the Raymondville Economic Development Corporation to pay for the project is contingent on residents’ input, said Garcia.
