CORPUS CHRISTI – A $15.4 million hangar, earmarked for the Coast Guard’s newest jets and offices, will soon break ground at Corpus Christi International Airport. Site preparation work is finished for the nearly 167,000-sf hangar.

The facility will house new CASA HC-144 Ocean Sentry jets, arriving within the next two years to replace older HU25 Falcon jets.

The project will combine the Coast Guard’s prevention department — which does boat inspections, navigation and waterway cleanup — with its response department’s search and rescue operations. They are presently split between a downtown office and aging Hangar 41 at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.
