AMARILLO - The $5.8 million, 55,000-sf United Supermarket store, located at 3552 S. Soncy Rd., has opened with 282 jobs created.  Estimated annual payroll is $2.6 million, according to General Manager Dustin Kile.

The Soncy Rd. store has the third-largest staff of United’s eight Amarillo stores, behind the Amarillo Market St. location and the United at Southwest 45th Ave. and Bell St., according to spokesman Eddie Owens.

A quarter of the new store’s employees transferred from other Amarillo locations, which then hired replacements. The new hires boost United’s employee count in Amarillo to 1,715, said Owens.

Family Medicine Centers has leased space in the southeast corner of building, adjacent to the pharmacy, for a Care Xpress clinic, which contains a waiting room and two exam rooms.

Lubbock-based United, a subsidiary of Albertson’s LLC, is developing the 19-acre parcel on which the store sits into a retail center called Soncy Market, said Owens. United opened a stand-alone United Express convenience store at the site in January 2014.

United became an independent division of Albertson’s LLC — based in Boise, Idaho — in 2014. Albertson’s paid $385 million for the United purchase, according to the Federal Trade Commission.
