DALLAS-FORT WORTH - After falling behind in the early months of 2015, North Texas home builders in second quarter started the most houses in five years.

Bad weather in first quarter caused home starts in North Texas to fall by more than 20 percent; however, DFW area home starts were up more than 25 percent from second quarter 2014 according to data from Dallas-based Residential Strategies Inc.

Local builders started 7,533 houses in the last three months — the largest one-quarter total since mid-2007.

At the end of June, there were 13,413 homes under construction in the DFW area, a 7.1-month supply of housing inventory.

Builders sold 6,026 DFW new homes in second quarter, 9 percent more than in the same quarter 2014.

Only 2,754 finished, vacant new homes were available in North Texas at the end of the quarter, about a 1.5-month supply.
