LUBBOCK – The $36 million first phase of the $72 million Northwest Lubbock drainage improvement project, which will alleviate flooding in the Arnett Benson neighborhood, will be completed by June 2014.

The first phase of the improvement project, which began in August 2013, involves installing two miles of storm sewer pipe in the Erskine St. corridor, according to Mike Keenum, Lubbock’s stormwater engineer. Once the pipeline work on Erskine is done, crews will begin phase two.

The second phase will connect the Erskine storm sewer pipeline to one running south along Quaker Ave. that will discharge the stormwater to the playa lake at Maxey Park.

The last leg of the project will ultimately discharge stormwater from Maxey Park into the Canyon Lakes system.
