Bryan approves fee waivers for some new home construction
BRYAN – The Bryan City Council approved a program that offers incentives to home builders to build new homes in the Bryan city limits in order to bring more homes to the area. The program waives new home construction fees for residences between 2,200 and 3,000 sf.
The total cost of these fees can be around $1,500.
In the past five years, the City of Bryan has issued an average of 27 permits annually for homes built in the target range.
During January and February of 2014, the value of new homes in Bryan jumped 26 percent compared to the same time in 2013, according to Cherry Ruffino of Coldwell Banker United Realtors.
"It’s going to see a positive effect overall. When we’re building in Bryan, we’re hiring subcontractors, we’re generating a lot of business in Bryan," said Roger Williams, owner of Southwest Homes.
