BROWNSVILLE, EDINBURG - A $309 million transmission project, including a 345-kV, 96-mile transmission line from a substation northwest of Edinburg to a substation east of Brownsville, has been approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

Electric Transmission Texas LLC (ETT) and Sharyland Utilities L.P. will construct the project, which is expected to be completed during summer 2016.

The transmission line will extend from the existing AEP Texas Central Co. North Edinburg Substation to the existing Brownsville Public Utilities Board Loma Alta Substation located near the Brownsville Ship Channel.

The western half of the line will be constructed, owned and operated by ETT, while the eastern half will be constructed and operated by Sharyland Utilities LP. The midpoint is about one mile east of the Hidalgo/Cameron county line.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) endorsed the project in January 2012.
