DALLAS-FORT WORTH - A new study by CBRE Group shows that the Dallas-Fort Worth area is the top retail construction market in the country.
About 2.6 million sf of shopping, retail and entertainment space was under construction at the start of 2014, slightly more than Las Vegas and New York City, the number two and three building markets in the report.
Retail construction in North Texas is less than half of what it was back in the early 2000s when so many large shopping center projects were under construction.
Current additions of new supermarkets, restaurants and theaters add up to a fair amount of new space. Renovations of older centers including Turtle Creek Village in Dallas and Plaza on the Parkway in Addison are also included in the mix.
