SAN ANTONIO – Single-family home production during the first quarter jumped 7 percent compared to the same period last year.

In 1Q 2014 San Antonio-area home builders started construction on 2,192 houses, according to Metrostudy. During the same period last year, builders started 2,048 homes.

The 1Q 2014 total puts area builders on track to start 8,526 homes this year. Last year, builders started construction on 8,505 homes.

Home buyers closed on 1,955 homes during 1Q 2014, a 4.3 percent jump from the same time last year when there were 1,875 closings. Area home buyers are on track to close on 8,256 houses, a 5.7 percent increase. Last year’s total was 7,813.

Lot supply has increased for three consecutive quarters. Current lot inventory is 18,384, rising 8.1 percent over that time.
