PHARR - A new 50,000-sf building set to house services for the Texas Attorney General's Office is under construction.
Located at 3308 N. Jackson Rd. — at the southeast corner of the intersection with West Eldora Rd. — the building is scheduled for a summer opening, said Janece Rolfe, office spokesperson.
The building will eventually include office space for three divisions: child support department, Medicaid fraud control and consumer protection department.
Employees from the Office of the Attorney General's McAllen regional office and field office as well as its Edinburg office will transfer to the new location in Pharr this summer. Weslaco's child support office and McAllen's Medicaid fraud location are scheduled to transfer to the Pharr building in October 2015.
Once their employees have moved to the Pharr office, these five state Attorney General office locations across the county will shut down.
About 230 people will be working at the facility come October 2015.
