SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio’s construction industry has gone from an impressive showing of adding nearly 2,000 employees, to a more modest increase of 500 employees, according to the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

As of March 31, 2013, local contractors were reporting 42,300 employees. A year later, the employment count stood at 42,800 — an increase of 1 percent.

By comparison, over the 12 months ended February 28, 2014, local contractors had added another 1,900 employees to their payrolls — that equates to a 5 percent increase in employment.

AGC tracks the employment losses and gains of 337 cities, and then ranks the cities based on these figures. As of February 2014, the San Antonio metro was ranked No. 84. A month later, the city came in at No. 181.
