Tech’s Bayer Plant Sciences building expansion underway
LUBBOCK – Tech officials broke ground on a $13.6 million expansion and renovation of the Bayer Plant Science Building, located on the south side of 15th Street.
The project will add 21,122 sf to the building. In addition to the new construction, the project includes 2,440 sf of renovation upgrades to the existing building. The renovation and expansion will add more labs, research areas and an outdoor instructional space.
In February, Tech announced a $19.3 million contribution from Bayer CropScience to benefit research in the department of plant and soil sciences. Combined with matching funds from the Texas Research Incentive Program, the contribution netted Tech $38.6 million.
