HOUSTON – The newly named NRG Stadium is expected to see its signage changed from Reliant to NRG in June as NRG Energy Inc. prepares to install a slew of energy sustainability upgrades in and outside the stadium.

The Harris County Sports & Convention Corp. approved the upgrades that will include

  – energy-efficient LED field lighting for NRG Stadium,

  -  six eVgo electric vehicle charging stations,

  – four total NRG “Haven Solar Canopies” on top of the two bridges that span Kirby Drive, at the entrance to Budweiser Plaza and in the newly constructed electric vehicle charging lot.

The total system size for the solar installation will be 221 kilowatts in sustainable energy for the park, although not everything will be installed until the end of 2015. The overall NRG Park will have a total of 700 solar panels, up to 456 LED field lights and four kiosks for charging mobile phones.
