HOUSTON - April construction permitting set a record for the second month in a row. The running 12-month total of building permits issued by the City of Houston topped $6.8 billion, the highest value since January 2002.
In April, the city issued building permits totaling $976 million, a 126 percent increase from April 2013.
Permits for nonresidential projects, such as offices and education buildings, rose 158 percent from 2013. Multifamily permits more than quadrupled in that time, accounting for the 77.4 percent year-over-year growth in residential permits.
