HOUSTON - Construction is underway and expected to be completed in September on a $12.2 million expansion to Houston’s TranStar facility off Katy Rd. near I-10 and Loop 610.

TranStar aims to provide transportation and emergency management for the Greater Houston area during hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, major events or ice storms.

The expansion will add 26,000 sf of additional floor space and include 11,000 sf of renovations to the existing part of the building.

Included in the expansion are a 5,200-sf conference and disaster support center, doubling the size of the existing computer room, six new showers and increased size of the emergency operations center from 25 to 112 seats.

The TranStar facility can typically hold 125 people on a daily basis, but during an emergency there could be between 400 and 500 people daily. The expansion will make more room for people who need access during an emergency.
