ARCHER CITY, ARCHER COUNTY - Archer City is famous for 1,850 people and 450,000 books by Hollywood screenwriter Larry McMurtry (author of Lonesome Dove). But now Archer City is making national headlines for another reason.

Eighteen-year-old Kelvin Cletus Green was officially sworn in as the new mayor of Archer City, less than two weeks before he graduates from high school.

Green did not shuck his duties as a senior baseball player where he played shortstop for the Archer City High School Wildcats until their playoff run came to an end.

Green takes his new job as mayor seriously, and says that he ran for mayor because he cares about his community, not the publicity.
