Houston airports skyrocket in March, posting best month ever
HOUSTON – Monthly passenger traffic through the Houston Airport System (HAS) reached a historic high in March, according to the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP).
March 2014 saw 5.4 million passengers travel through HAS, the largest monthly level since GHP began tracking passenger traffic in 1980. March 2014 traffic was also an increase of 4.5 percent over the previous peak of 5.2 million passengers in 2013.
The strong performance was due primarily to the 4.6 million domestic passengers handled by HAS in March 2014, the highest for any month on record and a 4 percent increase over March 2013.
HAS also experienced substantial growth in international passenger traffic, which rose 7 percent from March 2013 to 858,477 in March 2014.
HAS expects passenger counts to continue to grow through the year with addition of several routes. Korean Air introduced daily flights to Seoul and Spirit Airlines announced the addition of four new nonstop destinations (Atlanta, New Orleans, Fort Lauderdale and San Diego) starting in August and September.
