HOUSTON - Houston Methodist will build a new $328 million hospital in The Woodlands along with a $540 million inpatient tower at its current campus in the Texas Medical Center.

The 470,000-sf Woodlands hospital will be located at the intersection of Hwy. 242 and I-45. Groundbreaking is slated for early 2015 with completion expected in 2017. The 193-bed project includes a 135,000-sf medical building, which will open in late 2015.

This new hospital will be a full-service, acute care hospital capable of delivering services similar to what is available in the Texas Medical Center. The hospital will be modeled after Houston Methodist West Hospital near Katy.

The new 390-bed inpatient tower at the Texas Medical Center will replace patient beds in Houston Methodist Hospital’s original Main building and add advanced heart and neurosurgery operating rooms. It is also expected to be completed in 2017.

The tower will include 102 intensive care beds, expanded operating suites, hybrid suites, a dedicated cardiology floor with 14 interventional catheterization labs and high-tech operating rooms that will expand the hospital’s ability to provide image guided heart and brain procedures.

These projects are just the beginning of what will be a major investment for the Houston hospital system. Marc Boom, Houston Methodist president and CEO, said the hospital system plans to invest more than $1 billion in expanding and replacing its facilities in the Houston area over the next three years.
