LUBBOCK – Community Health Centers of Lubbock has broken ground at their new location at 1610 Fifth St.

The building will be 54,000 sf — 9,000 sf bigger than the original building plans. It will also be cheaper at $14.5 million.

Services currently offered by CHCL include medical, dental, eye health services, mental health services and health education services spread throughout seven locations. This new location will allow those services to be combined into one facility.

A $2 million grant from the J.T. & Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation helped kick off the capital campaign to raise funds for the building last year. About 52 percent of the $14.5 million needed for the building has been raised to date.

Construction is expected to begin as early as June and could be finished by May or June 2015.
