HUNTSVILLE - Construction for new stores in the Ravenwood Village shopping center, 200 block of I-45 South and Hwy. 30, is well underway.

On the south end, construction crews are doing the preparation work for Academy Sports + Outdoors’ 60,000-sf facility. Construction cost is $4 million.

Concrete shells have already been erected on the north end of the shopping center to prepare for the addition of 22,000-sf Ross, 12,650-sf Petco and Maurices.

Stores should start opening in September, according to Huntsville’s Economic Development Director Aron Kulhavy.

The north side of the complex will be home to a 90,000-sf Super Kroger grocery store. Kroger hopes to break ground this summer. Huntsville City Council approved the easements June 4.

There are two other buildings under construction in or near the Ravenwood complex. The first will be a small business building similar to the one already on-site that already houses Verizon and 5 Guys Burgers and Fries.

The second will be an 88-room Hampton Inn & Suites across the street from Ravenwood. Construction costs for the hotel are estimated to be $4.5 million, according to state filings.
