HOUSTON - A 1950s building in the Heights, originally developed for Southwestern Bell, is being transformed into a high-end residential property called Bell Heights. The property is located at the southeast corner of 18th St. and Ashland, one block off the 19th St. shopping district.

Bell Heights will include 24 luxury condominiums and 20 three-story single-family homes on small lots to be built from the ground up.

The 24 condos will range from 1,400 sf to 3,500 sf and all but one will be single-story. They will start in the $500,000s and reach $1.4 million.

Construction on the first houses will start later this month. Boulevard Realty will begin marketing the property onsite then. The houses will be built on the building's two adjacent parking lots.

Each section will include ten homes and a green space with fountains. The homes will range from 2,200 sf to 3,000 sf and be priced from the $600,000s to the $900,000s.

The project architect is Mirador Group.

Röhe & Wright Builders purchased the 1.6-acre property last year from AT&T and has started the initial construction phase of the historic building that once housed crank telephones and hand-operated switchboards.
